Lieutenant, K-9 released from hospitals after shooting at trailer park that left two dead

SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Palm Beach County sheriff's lieutenant who was shot in the leg Monday evening after responding to a domestic incident at a suburban West Palm Beach trailer park is at home recovering this morning, according to Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.

A K-9 assisting deputies that was shot three times during the incident is recovering and was released from a Palm Beach Gardens animal hospital this afternoon. 

According to PBSO, deputies responded to the Casa del Monte trailer park at the corner of Jog Road and Forest Hill Boulevard around 7 p.m. after 37-year-old Deglis Quintana was shot multiple times by her boyfriend Armando Gonzalez Felipe, 39, and left for dead. Both are from Greenacres.

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said Quintana tried to escape after being shot once, but Felipe pulled her back and shot her several more times.

Felipe, who was spotted along Jog Road, led deputies on a chase, according to PBSO. At some point during the chase, a lieutenant and a K-9 were shot.

"This is a dangerous job. We are a busy, busy agency with more than a million calls for service," said Bradshaw. "That's why when people say, 'Should the deputy have done this?' and second guess him, you have got to be there. This is prime example of how dangerous this job is, when you go out here on these calls."

Deputies fired back at Felipe, killing him, Bradshaw said.

The injured lieutenant, a 26-year veteran, was taken to Wellington Regional Medical Center, where doctors were able to remove the bullet during surgery.

The K-9, who was shot three times, underwent surgery at Pet Emergency & Referral Service on Northlake Boulevard.

Three officers are on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol according to Bradshaw.
