Thirteenth sheriff of Palm Beach County, Charles McCutcheon, passes away

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. -- The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has announced the passing of former sheriff Charles McCutcheon.

Sheriff McCutcheon served as the 13th sheriff of Palm Beach County from 1995 to 1996.

McCutcheon had a long history serving Palm Beach County. He began his career as a patrol officer at the Delray Beach Police Department continuing on to the Boca Raton Police Department where he served as the fifth police chief for the city.

He began his work with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office as the undersheriff for Sheriff Richard Wille until 1995 when he was appointed to sheriff following Wille's retirement.

After retiring McCutcheon continued to play an active role in the community. He was adjunct professor in the Criminal Justice Departments of the Palm Beach Community College and Florida Atlantic University.

He was the past president of the Palm Beach County Police Chiefs Association and chairman of the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee at the Palm Beach Community College.  
He served as the vice president of Florida Atlantic University Alumni Association.  He was also a member of Cities in Schools and American Society of Public Administration.

The viewing for McCutcheon will be held Friday, June 22, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Glick Family Funeral Home on N Federal Highway in Boca Raton.

The service will be on Saturday, June 23, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. An 11:00 a.m. grave site service will follow.
