WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The healthy initiative's Palm Beach County debut was a collaborative effort and was made possible by Congressman Alcee Hastings committment to his district and Foundcare Community Health Center.

On Saturday, from 11am to 4pm, free screenings for diabetes and high-blood pressure will take place at several barbershops and beauty salons throughout the county.

Event organizers say the goal of the program is to address health disparities among african american men and women in Florida

In addition to the screenings, medical professionals will give out medical resource guides and educational materials about breast cancer and obesity.

Officials hope to make the free screenings a monthly community event starting in the Fall.
