WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The 17-year-old Palm Beach Gardens High School senior accused of shooting two people at the South Florida Fair in late January is being charged as an adult, according to Palm Beach County Jail records.
Tommy Poindexter of Riviera Beach was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 7:30 Wednesday night after being held in juvenile detention since Feb. 1.
Poindexter was arrested on charges of aggravated battery-cause bodily harm or disability, two counts of possession of a weapon or ammunition and weapon offense.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, a fight broke out and Poindexter fired a weapon near Gate 2 on the north side of the fair's property on Saturday, Jan. 28.
Workers say families were hiding under counters and parents were holding on to their children when the fair was placed on lockdown. Most visitors were not allowed to exit the fair so deputies could conduct a search.
Two juveniles -- a girl and boy -- were injured during the shooting. One was airlifted to St. Mary's Medical Center and the other victim was transported to Wellington Regional Medical Center.
Both suffered non-life threatening injuries.
