WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.-- Investigators have determined that the cause of a fire that destroyed much of the Sunniland Patio furniture store June 12th was accidental.
The fire started around 9:30 at night in the 4100 block of Okeechobee Boulevard. The roof of the building collapsed just before 5 a.m. Flames finally died down about a half hour later.
Flammable material inside the building made it difficult to put the fire out.
According to investigators, an employee used a lighter to remove plastic wrapping on a spa. The polyvinyl wrapping ignited a cardboard frame, which the spa sat in. Investigators say the fire then spread to other combustible materials.
