WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Palm Beach Atlantic College in West Palm Beach continued a nearly thirty-year-old tradition Wednesday.

It held the school's Great American Bug Race.

For 28 years students have been taking part in the 'run for the roaches.'

The creepy crawly competition is used as a fundraiser for the school.

The objects is to get a roach to run outside a circle from inside a concentric track.

"We had a good strategy and we ran hard. 'Evel Bug Knievel' comes from a good breeding, we bred him over the years, it was just a good race," said winner Matt Klein.

The grand prize winner got $100. There were also cash rewards for win, place and show.

Organizers only allowed true insects, no threatened, endangered or non-native species.

Flying and jumping was prohibited. And bugs that ate other contestants were disqualified.
