WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Homeowners covered under the foreclosure agreement settlement should start seeing checks from Rust Consulting soon.
Postcards from the company have already been sent out advising foreclosure victims about the reward money, but coordinators believe some people may have accidentally thrown the cards away because it looks like junk mail.
Authorities said there's certain instructions on the card that must be followed in order for those who qualify to get their check.
More than four million homeowners who were in any stage during the foreclosure process in 2009 or 2010, is due to receive money after an agreement was reached by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Reserve Board with 13 mortgage servicers.
Coordinators said many people look at the post card and think it maybe a scam.
"So overwhelmed with junk and scammers and there's a bit of fear in that they might be getting scammed and there's also this exhaustion in dealing with this, so having seen the postcard, it doesn't look like something your going to see and say this looks like legitimate money coming to me and its supposed to alert you to the fact that there is money coming," said Kevin Mahar, with Credit Card Management Services.
If you don't have the card and believe you may qualify, you can call Rust Consulting at 888-952-9105 to see if your name is on the list.
Rust Consulting plans to distribute checks April 12th.
