WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — After a day and a half of searching, police have arrested a man they believe stabbed his brother to death earlier this week in his West Palm Beach apartment.

Brandin Gonsalves, 23, was found this morning about 80 miles south of West Palm Beach, near Tamiami, in Sweetwater by city police.

West Palm Beach Police detectives interviewed Gonsalves and arrested him on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of his 25-year-old brother Gerard Gonsalves Jr., said West Palm Beach Police spokesman Allan Ortman.

Gonsalves Jr. was found dead Tuesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. by his father in an apartment the brothers shared in the Ponte Verde complex on Village Boulevard.

Gonsalves Jr. was stabbed to death, Ortman said. He did not say how many times or where.

Both brothers have a short criminal history, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement records.

Gerard Gonsalves Jr. was arrested in 2008 on charges including burglary and larceny. He was arrested in 2009 for violating his probation.

Brandin Gonsalves was arrested as a juvenile in 2002 by Palm Beach County school police on charges of disturbing the peace and criminal mischief, according records.
