SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A man killed in a deputy-involved shooting Friday evening in suburban West Palm Beach has been identified as 49-year-old Daniel Lee Rhodes, according to Eric Davis, spokesman for Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Davis said deputies responded around 9:45 p.m. to a domestic call in the 4000 block of Gun Club Road. When they arrived, they found Rhodes holding a knife to his wife.
Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said during the 911 call Rhodes wife and their daughter were heard screaming on the phone.
Sheriff Bradshaw said Rhodes threatened to "kill his wife" if the police were called.
When the deputy arrived Rhodes was holding a machete type knife and "charged at the deputy," which is what investigators say led to the shooting.
Rhodes died at the scene.
Sheriff Bradshaw said Rhodes has an extensive criminal record, including an arrest for aggravated assault.
