WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control will use an outsourced company to complete animal licensing and tagging.
The move was unanimously approved by Palm Beach County commissioners at a meeting Tuesday morning.
The company, Pet Data Inc. is based out Farmers Branch, Texas.
Pet Data Inc will handle sending rabies tag renewals, renewal notices and entering payment data for rabies tags, among other things.
The move will save Animal Care and Control nearly $400,000, but 5 jobs will be cut at the Animal Care and Control headquarters in West Palm Beach.
Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control Director Dianne Sauve said the data processing section of the West Palm Beach office is back logged by about 4 months.
About 120,000 pet owners register their pets for rabies tags each year in Palm Beach County, according to Sauve.
Outsourcing to a company for help is something Sauve said she supports.
“This is the only route you can take when you're looking at a slow-down in the economy, budget cuts, you have to find a way to be efficient with less,” said Sauve.
