WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - — A man coming home from the store was shot during an attempted robbery outside his residence Wednesday night, a city police spokesman said.

The victim, a man in his 40s, returned to his residence in the 1100 block of North Rosemary Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. when another man came out of the bushes and tried to rob him, spokesman Allan Ortman said.

A struggle ensued and the resident of the home was shot in the stomach with a small-caliber handgun. The injured man was alert and speaking with officers at the scene before being taken to St. Mary's Medical Center. Information on his condition was not immediately available.

The suspect had a shirt covering his face but was believed to be young in age, Ortman said.
