WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -
According to a spokesman for the West Palm Beach Police Department, an off-duty firefighter was involved in a car accident.

Allan Ortman, spokesman for West Palm Beach Police Department, said an off duty firefighter crashed his Volkswagen into a tree at the corner of Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and Carver Avenue just after 6 p.m. Friday.

Police officers at the scene said the firefighter swerved to avoid a car that had cut him off, causing him to crash into a tree.

The Jaws of Life were used to extricate both the firefighter and passenger with him. They appear to have sustained non-life threatening injuries. The firefighter was injured and is being transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Ortman could not confirm the rank of the firefighter or the extent of his injuries.
