17 year old Amanda De Jesus died just outside El Toro Loco cafe, in suburban West Palm Beach. It's an establishment that locals say has had its share of violent activities.
"That Toro Loco bar right there is like...there's a shooting there every other day," said Donna Scurry, a local resident.
Friday morning's shooting death of a Lake Worth High School senior, has devastated the teen's friends and family. Facebook postings and pictures now are the only reminders of a life brought to an end too soon.
A fight inside the club, which some refer to as Jimmy's Cafe, spilled into the street. Shots were fired, and De Jesus was in the wrong place at the wrong time. "For someone to go to a club and have to come out and worry about being shot, it's ridiculous," said April Tremblay, a concerned resident.
"It just appears that it's some type of random shots being fired for whatever reason. We'll determine that through our investigation," said Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.
A dark colored SUV led deputies on a high speed chase, the vehicle later abandoned on the side of the road.
"We do have one person in custody, he was definitely someone who was involved in this," said Bradshaw.
19 year old Marcus Perry turned himself into authorities. According to investigators, he claimed he was in the company of four other men during the incident, and that one of those men was the shooter.
Witnesses at the scene claim that only one man fired the gun, and that Perry was in fact the guilty party.
Deputies continue to search for other persons of interest. Anyone with more information is asked to contact Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at 1800-458-TIPS.
