WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - They make a difference in the lives of foster children, through the courts, through the legislature, through the non-profit "Florida's Children First."

From around the state they came to recognize the efforts of several people who have taken the needs of foster children to heart:

The Cannons, who added to their family by adopting two teenage brothers.

Lawyer Tracey McPharlin, who has worked diligently in representing foster and disabled children.

D'Arta Franklin, who was in foster care and is now an advocate for foster youth.

Emmanuel 'Manny' Oliver who is a voice for those still in foster care, working to improve the system.

And NewsChannel 5's own, Jim Sackett, who has aired the segment, "Thursday's Child" for over 30 years.
