Ivins Rosier: Juvenile to be tried as adult in police dog shooting, denied bond

WEST PALM BEACH. Fla. - UPDATE:

Ivins Rosier, 16, made his first court appearance before a Palm Beach County judge Friday morning.  Rosier was denied bond on the first count of burglarizing a home.  Rosier is accused of shooting and killing a former police dog, "Drake."  The judge set bail at $1 million for that charge.  The teen, who is now being charged as an adult, was also given a $500,000 bond for the third charge of shooting into a dwelling.

A Grand Jury indicted a 16-year-old on three felony charges Thursday and decided to prosecute him as an adult in the shooting death of a retired K-9 officer.

Ivins Rosier is facing charges of Burglary of a Dwelling with a Firearm, Felony Cruelty to Animals with a Firearm, and Shooting into a Building.  If convicted, he could face the possibility of life in prison.

Rosier is accused of breaking into a Florida Highway Trooper's house and shooting a retired K-9 officer.  The dog, named Drake, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and passed away a few days later.

At the time, Rosier was on house arrest for a prior run in with the law.  He had an electronic monitoring device strapped to his ankle.

However, the state says juvenile detention workers failed to properly activate the device before releasing the teen on house arrest.  The state is now reviewing every monitoring case in the state and is reviewing its training procedures as well.

Rosier will face his first court appearance Friday morning.  He will be transferred from the Juvenile Detention Center to the Palm Beach County Jail.

Meanwhile, the vet that took care of Drake has raised more than $25,000 dollars from donors across the world for the dog's medical bills. The rest of the money will go to help other retired K-9 animals in the area.
