Inside the 'solicitation zone' at Palm Beach County early voting sites

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - Huddled under a tent, are a couple dozen people surrounded by orange cones and yellow tape.  Those people are kept at least 100 feet back from the polling place as they make their very last political pitches to  soon-to-be voters.

"We've got to stay within these lines over here," said Ray Agostini, who finds himself in the 'solicitation zone' every election. 

"We can't go outside. We can't do anything out there."  He hands out flyers and answers questions, trying to sway these voters to vote Republican.  "We're getting along well with the other side by the way," he said.

The 'Solicitation Zone' is a very small space, only about 15 feet by 20 feet surrounded by political signs and filled with very different political ideas. 

Among those on the Democratic side of the zone is Jeffrey Knight.  "Not trying to persuade anybody to do anything, just giving people the right information," he said.  There is much time for people to sift through that information in line, as the minutes - and in some cases hours - ticks by.  "I don't like the idea of having a small little space, but it's order," said Knight.

Those in the zone say they have been getting through to a number of undecided voters so sharing a tight space with political foes in this tight election is well worth it.  "We're going to have different opinions but we make the best of it," said Knight.  "We're all Americans."

Early voting continues in Palm Beach County from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Saturday.
