WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The threat against an Inlet Grove high school football player has subsided.
The principal at Inlet Grove High School says the student will be playing in tonight's game at King's Academy, which was postponed on Friday after the threat was received.
The principal, Dr. Emma Banks, says the player told her that there are no longer hard feelings, that the two sides have made up.
However, officials at Kings Academy say there will be an increased security presence at the game tonight, which starts at 7.
The game was moved to Kings Academy, which provides more of a closed setting than does Inlet Grove, whose field sits on an open street.
One of the Kings Academy players, Garrett Larson, says he only worries about what's happening between the lines.
"We are ready to play no matter what the day of the week is," said Larson.
Officials at King's Academy say taking the weekend was well worth it.
There will also be four deputies watching over the game tonight, instead of two.
"The time from last Friday night is part of it. Letting tensions a chance to attenuate. The opportunity to be in a different neighborhood, on a different type of campus," said the school's director of development, Glenn Martin. "It's the world we live in. We deal with these things. We make right decisions, we move forward."
As the field was prepared, the players, who spend so many hours living and breathing football, say they're in the right frame of mind.
"I feel safe," says Larson."I'm confident in our school's ability to keep us safe, no matter what's gone on the outside."
District police are investigating, but could not say whether any charges would be filed against the student who made the initial threat, who does not go to either of these schools.
