WEST PALM BEACH — - Governor Rick Scott attended an economic forum in Palm Beach County Monday.
After he spoke, he was asked about the Trayvon Martin case.
Scott said the special prosecutor who charged George Zimmerman with Trayvon Martin's death was driven by facts and not by public pressure.
"We have to have justice for Trayvon's family. And, we have to have due process for George Zimmerman. And, that's what we're going to do," the governor said.
Zimmerman was charged last week with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting in a gated community in Sanford. Zimmerman, who is expected to plead not guilty, says he acted in self-defense.
The arrest came nearly six weeks after the shooting and subsequent protests nationwide that stirred a debate about race and self-defense.
The governor gave the keynote address at the Palm Beach Strategic Forum, sponsored by the International Economic Forum of the Americas.
About 900 people from 20 countries were participating in the two-day forum.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
