WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Gov. Rick Scott pushed his budget proposal in an appearance in West Palm Beach on Monday.

Addressing a large gathering of the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches, the Republican governor emphasized two of his top budget priorities, a raise for teachers and a cut to the sales tax on manufacturing equipment.

Scott also showered praise on leaders of Everglades restoration efforts.

Answering questions from the audience, the governor mostly steered clear of strong stances on issues. Asked about immigration, he said he supported reform, but was short on specifics. On proposals regarding texting while driving, he called the topic important, but did not take a position. And asked which college football team he rooted for, he refused to pick a favorite.
