Currie Park drug bust: Major drug bust in West Palm Beach near Intracoastal Waterway

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations directorate has confirmed an investigation into a drug bust at Currie Park in the 2400 block of North Flagler Drive.

Law enforcement sources told WPTV NewsChannel 5 that approximately 1,000 pounds of drugs were seized.

A spokesperson for the Town of Palm Beach Police Department said a marine officer spotted a boat around 9:30 a.m.

The boat was docked at the Currie Park marina and had been reported stolen, the spokesperson said.

"They called the DEA. The next thing you know all hell broke loose," said Ray Porter, an eyewitness. "You see stuff like that on TV. That is wild."

"It looked like some bags of weed or something like that," said David Artry, another eyewitness. "It was a truckload."

A YouReporter sent WPTV NewsChannel 5 several photographs of what appeared to be undercover federal agents standing in front of as many as 100 bales of drugs.

"The dog went in there and sniffed and discovered it was loaded with marijuana," said George Lockhart of Lockhart International Security & Patrol, a private company contracted by Palm Beach County to patrol Currie Park. "This was a good load. I'm surprised the boat could carry all that."

Law enforcement sources said three people were arrested.

Sources said the boat may have stolen from Broward County.
