SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A loss prevention employee at a suburban West Palm Beach discount department store was hospitalized Tuesday evening after he was struck by a vehicle driven by a woman suspected of shoplifting, said Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The employee, who was not identified by authorities, was following the suspect out of Marshalls at 1801 North Military Trail when she got into a newer model Nissan Altima and tried to flee the scene, Barbera said.
She said the man stood behind the suspect’s vehicle to try to copy the tag number when the suspect backed out of the parking space and struck him.
He was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center. He is expected to survive his injuries, she said.
The suspect was described as a black female in her mid-20s.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect and/or her vehicle is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
