Suburban West Palm Beach - Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a deadly accident that claimed the life of a member of their law enforcement agency.
The victim is identified as Manuel Velasco, a PBSO Parking Enforcement Specialist, who was assigned for duty at Palm Beach International Airport. He had been with PBSO since 2004.
He was driving a van that collided with a car at the intersection of Forest Hill Boulevard and Haverhill Road around 4 a.m. Sunday.
Deputies say Velasco was heading north on Haverhill Road at the time of the crash. A gold Lincoln Continental was headed east on Forest Hill Boulevard.
Deputies say when the two vehicles collided, Velasco died at the scene.
The driver of the other car, identified as 26 year old James Choaffner, was transported by Trauma Hawk to Delray Medical Center.
The sheriff's office vehicle homicide unit was at the scene for hours investigating the cause of the accident.
Forest Hill was closed in both directions for several hours while investigators processed the scene.
