WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - One person was killed in a crash on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach, police said.
The driver was traveling westbound on Okeechobee Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he hit a barrier and flipped over the median near the Australian Avenue overpass, according to police.
The impact ejected the driver who was then struck by an eastbound pickup truck.
He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Neither the victim nor the pickup driver has been identified.
The truck driver was shaken but not injured.
The impact crushed the front end of that car and automobile parts were strewn across eastbound Okeechobee Boulevard.
Police detoured eastbound traffic from I-95 to Australian Avenue for about 4 hours.
That stretch of Okeechobee has since been reopened.
This story will be updated when more information is available.
