SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A man is dead after the driver of a car crashes into a canal in suburban West Palm Beach.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said Emily Santos, 29, of West Palm Beach was driving her silver Mazda, traveling north on Haverhill Road at about 3:30 a.m., when she lost control of her vehicle. She crossed the right lane and shoulder and landed in the canal.
Santos' passenger Juan Carlos Cortes, 38, of West Palm Beach, died as a result.
Northbound lanes of Haverhill Road were shut down Sunday morning, after authorities discovered the car near the intersection of Forest Hill Boulevard and Haverhill Road.
Alcohol may have played a part in the accident.
The driver was transported to Wellington Medical Center and is expected to survive.
