WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The song titled "Accidental Racist" and Brad Paisley and LL Cool J is sparking controversy across the country.
Local radio hosts can't believe the comments.
"When I read the comments I said, 'what's the big deal?' It's just saying don't judge a book by its cover," X 102.3 DJ Dady Phatts said.
"You know you're going to have your haters with everything especially with a topic like racism," WIRK 103.1's Sammy Cruise said.
WIRK 103.1 is one of the premier country stations in West Palm Beach.
Cruise said they haven't played the song on the radio yet, because they haven't acquired the MP3.
Cruise heard it though and read the comments online.
"The message is clear and it's correct," Cruise said. "Racism is horrible and it still goes on, but those who don't deal with it on a daily basis tend to ignore it."
The song focuses on a southern white man being judged for wearing the confederate flag on a Lynyrd Skynyrd shirt.
Attire the lyrics say bring racist feelings for some, but isn't the intention by the person wearing the shirt.
"The flag just means that I'm from the south," Cruise described of what the song is trying to say. "You know people from the south are proud of their heritage and proud of where they're from, but people from the north are as well."
The song also brings in another perspective.
LL Cool J describes what it's like to be judged as a black man for wearing a du rag, gold chains or having baggy pants.
"Just because I have a gold chain on and a du rag doesn't mean I'm going to come and rob you. I mean I like the song," DJ Dady Phatts said.
Phatts and Cruise say the message is right even though many may not like the song.
They say it comes down to the old saying, don’t judge a book by it’s cover.
