SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- - Voters waiting outside the supervisor of elections office in Palm Beach County were turned away on Monday evening after poll workers told voters they would not make the deadline.
The lines of people wishing to vote by absentee ballot wrapped around the building where voters waited hours only to be told that if they did not make it in the doors by 7:00 p.m. they would not vote.
Lake Worth voter Angela Donnino was the last person to slip into the line, making the cutoff to early vote by 30 seconds.
"I'm just glad we made it and hopefully we'll get it over with and not have to deal it anymore after this," said Donnino.
After Donnino waited for 30 minutes, she was sent packing. County elections workers told the crowd the door was closing at 7:00 p.m. no matter who remained in line.
"I think people are aggravated and the people that are still waiting in line may not even make it in," said Donnino shortly after exiting the line.
One by one, voters who had stood in their place and invested hours to participate in democracy, walked away in frustration.
"Some people have to work tomorrow. We don't have the luxury to stand in line," said Tamiko Lansiti, a West Palm Beach voter.
Confusion among hopeful voters started to rise, but some voters, not wanting to wait for answers, returned to their cars to head home.
"I was in line for four hours I should be able to do my absentee vote," said Kimberly Daniels, a Palm Beach County voter. "I'm not voting at all tomorrow because I don't have the opportunity."
Voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballot on Tuesday at their designated polling place.
