SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- It was an anonymous letter sent to Sheriff Ric Bradshaw that started a review.  The letter contained allegations of Lt. Paula Kronsperger sleeping with numerous higher ups to rise to a position of authority.

The letter, at this point largely comprised of rumor and innuendo, names names and paints a picture of the department being like a frat house with guns.

Kronsperger, a 12-year veteran, has been in Internal Affairs on three different occasions.  She's now head of the highly sought-after Fugitive Warrants Division.

Both are positions of power, and, in many cases supervising male deputies.

So is any of this true?  Or is the sheriff's office spending valuable resources to only further spin the rumor mill?

Sources say Kronsperger did have an affair with a deputy who helped save her life during an altercation in Belle Glade.   She would later become his superior and he was transferred after the department became aware of the affair.

The affair has sparked a whirlwind of criticism on a law enforcement blog site, where anonymous posters are quick to bash Kronsperger.

As for the allegations of her sleeping her way to the top, no proof yet exists.

Several male investigators and higher-ups we spoke with, who could not prove these allegations, were nonetheless quick to believe the letter as fact.

Sources close to Kronsperger however say, "She's a top-notch investigator that has proven herself time and time again and that's why she's been in Internal Affairs on three different occasions.  It's also one of the most hated positions in the department."

Currently Kronsperger's direct supervisor is a female and sex played no part in that promotion.

The source close to Kronsperger continues saying, "This letter was written by someone with an axe to grind.  This is a smear campaign, and an absolute waste of taxpayer's money to investigate an anonymous complaint."

Internal Affairs is looking into the issue, but this is not technically considered an investigation.  It's been deemed an incident review, meaning Kronsperger is not required to say anything.
