Food Trucks- You've asked for it. And now they're here! The Acreage Community Park Music Jam will be hosting a classic car show and featuring the 1st food truck event in The Acreage/Loxahatchee area (6701 140th Ave N., Loxahatchee).This premier food truck, car show and live music event is coordinated by The Acreage Landowners Association, The Food Truck Connection and Indian Trail Improvement District. The event will also include live music, a classic car show, a 50/50 raffle, prizes and more. Saturday Free, 6 p.m.- 10 p.m.
San Juan Festival- Ready to dance? Thousands of salsa music fans and other members of the Treasure Coast Hispanic community will gather en masse for the 6th Annual San Juan Festival (Whispering Pines Park,800 S.W. Darwin Blvd., Port St. Lucie) and Business Expo this weekend. Sponsored by the nonprofit Puerto Rican Association for Hispanic Affairs, this year's festival will feature performances by international salsa music star Eddie Santiago, the Fifth Avenue Jazz band, Norberto Ortiz and his Mia Orchestra, the Puerto Rican folkloric musical band Grupo Raises Latina, doo-wop performer Sha-Boom and many others. In addition to live music, there will be fun and games for the entire family, including a huge variety of traditional Latin foods, arts and crafts and more. A portion of the gate proceeds will help fund scholarships at Indian River State College for area students. $10 for adults, $5 for kids; Saturday 12 p.m. - 10 p.m.
PalmCon- Are you a fan of comics, anime, video games or popular shows like Star Wars, Superman or The Walking Dead? Locals and eager travelers alike will be attending the one-of-a-kind PalmCon: The Palm Beach Comic Book and Collectibles Show, which moves to the Palm Beach County Convention Center (650 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach) to occupy over 50,000-square feet of convention space. Since its beginning in 2011, PalmCon strives to bring Palm Beach County the best in comics, animation, and pop-culture while providing a fun and safe family friendly atmosphere. Organizers are happy to have film and television actor Deep Roy as a guest. He is widely recognized for his role as all of the Oompa Loompas in Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Deep Roy also holds the honor of being the only actor to appear on screen in all three major science-fiction franchises – Doctor Who, Star Trek and Star Wars. He has also appeared in Transformers, The NeverEnding Story, Flash Gordon, Return to Oz, including a recurring role in the HBO series Eastbound and Down. PalmCon is represented by most of the major comic shops in South Florida with over 100 vendors, artists, publishers and filmmakers. Attendees will enjoy raffle drawings, a costume contest, and the Indie-Film Screening Room showing short films created by local filmmakers. Saturday $9 for adults; $5 for kids, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Rhino Day- Did you know that Sunday is "Rhino Day?" That's why you need to make your way out to Lion Country Safari (2003 Lion Country Safari Rd, Loxahatchee), home to the largest herd of Southern White Rhinos in the country. The 14 rhinos on safari will get enrichments wrapped in colorful boxes throughout the day. From noon – 2 p-m guests can make a rhino-themed craft in our Education Station. The endangered Southern White Rhinoceros is the third largest land animal after African and Asian elephants. Of the 5 species of rhinos (White, Black, Indian, Sumatran and Javan) the white rhino is the most abundant with approximately 20,150 alive today but all 5 species are in peril due mostly to poaching. The day is marked as an opportunity for people all over the world to take a stand against rhino poaching and the illegal trade in rhino horn. Sunday $29 for adults, $21 for kids; 12 p.m. - 2 p.m.
Miranda Lambert- Lock-in your weekend and head-up to Cruzan Amphitheatre (601 Sansburys Way, West Palm Beach), for a concert featuring country music superstar Miranda Lambert. Indeed, she is reprising her highly-successful 2006 tour called Locked and Loaded to version 2013.0, dubbed as the ‘Locked and Reloaded’ tour. Miranda Lambert is also a reality-TV contest star alumnae, a finalist of the 2003 Nashville Star show. She may not have bagged the grand title, yet look how far she’s gone with her talent and artistry. Lambert has been honored by the Grammy Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards, and the Country Music Association Awards. Her singles and albums are steady fixtures on the Billboard Charts, and she is constantly touring round the country and performing to sold-out crowds. ”Locked and Reloaded” is a guaranteed hit!
