WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Local race organizers are tightening security for an event Wednesday in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing.
More than 1,100 area companies and tens of thousands of people are expected to pour into downtown West Palm Beach for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run.
Organizers say they are adding security but have declined to be specific.
A press release said the West Palm Beach Police Department had communicated with TeamFootWorks about the event and officers were confident the event would be safe.
Several street closures will start at 6:15pm Wednesday along Flagler Drive from Clematis to NW 23rd Street.
The race starts at 6:45 at the Meyer Amphitheater.
The 5K will wind through downtown West Palm Beach an streets will reopen at 8pm.
Organizers for the four-day Sunfest event scheduled for May are also increasing security as more than 165,000 people are expected.
Other Palm Beach County event organizers have said they are also examining security measures.
