WELLINGTON, Fla. -- By a vote of 5-2, the village of Wellington planning and zoning board approved a controversial Equestrian Village project.

Now the project moves to village council for a first reading, expected on Jan. 31.

The location for the almost 100 acre development is near the corner of South Shore Boulevard and Pierson Road, next to the Wellington preserve.

The Equestrian Village developer says the plans will include a hotel, shopping area and horse arena.

People backing the development say it's a chance to market Wellington in a big way, while creating much needed jobs during construction.

People against the plan say it's too disruptive to the small town feel of Wellington.
