WELLINGTON, Fla. -- The Palm Beach County School Board on Wednesday replaced former Polo Park Middle School Principal Scott Blake, who is facing sex charges.
The board unanimously promoted Poinciana Elementary School Principal Ann Clark to take over as head of Polo Park Middle in Wellington.
The district removed Blake last week after he was arrested by Boynton Beach police on charges of obscene communication and traveling to meet a minor to commit an unlawful sex act.
According to a Boynton Beach police report, Blake was arrested Thursday night after he drove to Boynton Beach to meet what he thought was a 15-year-old boy he had communicated with online but was actually an undercover agent. Blake, 46, of Palm Beach Gardens was in the Palm Beach County Jail Wednesday on $500,000 bond.
Superintendent Wayne Gent said last week that Blake would be reassigned until the legal charges against him were settled. After the charges are settled, Gent said, the district will decide on disciplinary action.
Board members did not comment Wednesday on the situation. Gent said last week that he cannot comment on pending legal cases but “these allegations are very troubling and disappointing to us.”
Clark, 51, has been the principal at Poinciana Elementary School for two years and has worked for the school district since 1983. She previously served as principal at Lantana Middle School.
In other business the school board:
*Shifted two school principals — Joe Schneider from Galaxy Elementary School in Boynton Beach to principal of Liberty Park Elementary School in Greenacres; Aurora Francois, from Barton Elementary School in Lake Worth to manager of career and technical development in the district’s Adult and Community Education Department.
*Voted to expel 17 students for infractions last year such as fighting with teachers, possessing firearms or BB guns and distributing marijuana-laced candy..
*Voted 5-2 to approve a four-year contract for Inspector General Lung Chiu at $135,000 per year. Board members Jennifer Prior Brown and Chuck Shaw voted against the contract.
*Voted to settle a lawsuit with former Indian Ridge School family counselor Ruth Ambroise. She sued the district in federal court in 2011 alleging that she was terminated by the school’s principal in 2009 because she was pregnant. Terms of the proposed settlement were not disclosed.
