WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A 23 year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol has been arrested and charged with grand theft.
Robert Purser was arrested after an investigation by the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office.
Purser, according to his arrest report, runs 208 Enterprises of South Florida, a Wellington business offering law enforcement officers off-duty security jobs.
Investigators say that Purser was organizing off-duty jobs for other officers while he was on-duty.
According to his arrest report Purser would provide sworn law enforcement officers as road closure personnel during numerous Florida East Coast Railroad maintenance projects throughout Florida.
208 Enterprises would bill Gulfstream Engineering for the total number of 'man-hours' each project would take with a minimum of eight hours per job.
Investigators say that Purser was scheduling and billing for non-existent or phantom officers at various job sites from 2010 until 2012.
Purser, according to his arrest report, defrauded $208,000 from Gulfstream Engineering.
He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and later released on bond.
