Eleven-year-old Jacklyn Tucker, who was bitten in the face by a dog last month, had a successful surgery Tuesday to separate and align her lips.
Jacklyn’s dad, Jack Tucker, posted to his Facebook account about noon Tuesday that doctor’s had completed his daughter’s third surgery since the attack.
“Jacklyn is out of surgery,” Tucker wrote. “She looks great. Dr. Schnitt did an excellent job.”
Jacklyn’s top lip and a part of her nose were severed during a June 19 sleepover when she was attacked by a friend’s dog.
She had emergency plastic surgery when she arrived at St. Mary’s Medical Center after the attack, but two weeks later, doctors realized that her body was not accepting the tissue they had used to repair the wounds. Jacklyn was transferred to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital to see Dr. Drew Schnitt, a plastic surgeon who specializes in complex reconstruction. At DiMaggio Children’s she had a second surgery in which doctors used a part of her lower lip to cover the wound on her upper lip.
Jack Tucker could not be reached via telephone for comment late Tuesday.
