WELLINGTON, Fla. - Darlyn Dailey went to Buffalo Wild Wings in Wellington Sunday to visit her friend, who's an Assistant Manager there. But that quick visit turned into so much more.
Patty Shay organized a surprise fundraiser for her friend Dailey, who was diagnosed with breast cancer two months ago.
"She was very surprised when she got here. She had no clue any of this was going on," Shay said smiling.
For Shay, this was a personal event in more ways than one. She's also a cancer survivor.
"It's tough. I know what she's going through. Any support you get helps a lot," added Shay choking back tears.
Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies and firefighters also heard the call, serving as bartenders and servers. They also battled for department bragging rights in a hot wings eating contest to raise more money for Dailey's care.
Dailey said she can't believe her friend did all of this for her.
"I think it's overwhelming but I just want people to know that there's help out there for them and that there are people out there who are willing to go the extra mile to help you out," said Dailey.
