WELLINGTON, Fla. - Ten homes in the 800 block of Azure Avenue in Wellington were evacuated Tuesday evening after the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate possible explosive devices found in the home of a deceased veteran, said Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.
Barbera said the man had recently died and his family found the items, wrapped in plastic, while preparing for a garage sale before the house was put up for sale.
Bomb squad found “three training grenades that will be returned to the Air Force,” Barbera said.
She said it is standard procedure to call the bomb squad to investigate suspicious items and that homes were evacuated as a precaution.
All residents have returned home.
