A firefighter has been injured while battling a fire for nearly an hour in suburban Lake Worth this afternoon.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to the 4300 block of Wilkinson Drive at 2:42 p.m. after the house’s residents reported an electrical fire. The residents told dispatchers that they had evacuated the house.
Arriving crews reported that they could see smoke plumes from about a block away. When they arrived at the home, they reported black smoke and fire coming from the right side of the home.
Crews reported finding fire in the roof and heavy smoke in several rooms and the attic.
At least one person from the home is being treated for heat exhaustion at the scene, said Capt. Lee Forshner, spokesman for fire rescue.
An hour into the fire, crews reported that it was out.
There were conflicting reports whether one or two firefighters were hurt. A fire captain later said only one firefighter was hurt.
