MIAMI (AP) -- Tropical Storm Alberto is moving eastward as it spins off the coast of Florida.

Alberto's maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 kph) Monday with some weakening expected during the next two days.

The storm is centered about 175 miles (282 kilometers) east of Jacksonville. Alberto is moving east near 7 mph (11 kph) but is expected to turn northeastward sometime in the next two days.

On its current track, Alberto is expected to stay offshore of the Carolinas and Georgia coast.

Meanwhile in the Pacific, a tropical depression south of Mexico is expected to strengthen. The depression's maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 kph), but it's expected to reach tropical storm strength later in the day. It's centered about 535 miles (861 kilometers) south of Acapulco, Mexico.
