PALM BEACH SHORES, Fla. - Fishermen hauled in a hammerhead shark Monday. And the catch caused controversy.

Shark expert Jim Abernethy heard about the catch and hurried over to the Sailfish Marina.

He found a 9 foot female abandoned on the dock.

He photographed the shark which may have been pregnant.

He was told by dock attendants that the captain of a sport fishing vessel caught the shark and left the marina.

He says it was needlessly killed.

"It's, it's very sad that we have people who make their living off the ocean but don't respect it enough to take care of it for the future generations," Abernethy said.

He said the shark was eventually taken away.

Abernethy has contacted other shark experts and sent a long email detailing the situation.
