The Palm Beach County School Board today gave a reprieve to Ernest Brown, the Suncoast High School band director under fire for deficits run up on two band trips to Europe.
After several residents implored the board to save Brown's job, board members postponed voting on whether to fire him
Brown, 51, was indicted in February on fraud charges in connection with the trips. According to the indictment Brown ran up about $107,000 in deficits in the band's internal accounts on the two trips, and used band money to take several family members on the field trips.
Superintendent Wayne Gent recommended firing Brown in connection with the incident.
