ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. - A man shot and killed by a deputy Saturday evening in connection with a home invasion in Royal Palm Beach has been identified.
Jamar F. Anderson, 24, of Ft. Lauderdale, was shot when he tried to flee from the scene by driving a car toward deputies, according to Eric Davis, a spokesman with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies are still searching for two other suspects. A person of interest arrested Saturday has been released.
The victims are Tyrone R. Cooper, 54, and Dorothy H. Cooper, 55, who are listed as the owners of the home in the 100 block of Finch Court, about 1 mile southwest of Royal Palm Beach High School.
According to Davis, deputies responded to a call around 10 p.m. of a home invasion at 135 Finch Court. The caller said people claiming to be police officers, wearing ski masks and clothing with the word "police" on it, had forced their way inside the home. The caller was a family member who had escaped out the back door.
Deputies were in the area and arrived quickly, surprising the suspects as they were leaving the home. Two of the suspects ran back inside the house. Anderson made it to a car and into the driver's seat.
When asked to stop the car, Anderson instead drove it toward the officers, according to the sheriff's office. A deputy fired a single shot, hitting Anderson in the neck, Davis said. Anderson died at the scene
Deputies recovered at least three weapons at the scene, as well as police-type gear, Davis said.
Davis described the suspects as two black men, one was light skinned and around 6-foot-one-inch tall and weighing around 190 pounds. The other man has a thin build, is 6-feet-tall and weighs about 180 pounds.
