ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. - A man who tried to flee a DUI checkpoint in Royal Palm Beach was flown to the hospital Friday evening after being wounded by a Boynton Beach police officer, according to Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Several agencies were working a DUI saturation patrol when around 8:14 p.m. a Boynton Beach police officer tried to stop a vehicle in the 1000 block of Crestwood Boulevard in front of H L Jackson Elementary School.
The driver refused to stop and struck the police officer, who sustained minor injuries, Barbera said.
Another officer fired at and wounded the driver, who was flown by Trauma Hawk to St. Mary's Medical Center.
