Investigators have identified the diver who died Sunday afternoon in Riviera Beach.

They say Donald Dessert, Jr., of Palm Bay, was diving with friends when he surfaced and then unexpectedly descended.

Fellow divers brought him to the surface and transported him to a boat. They tried to administer CPR until Riviera Beach Fire Rescue arrived on the scene.

Crews transported the diver to St. Mary's Medical center where he was pronounced dead just after 12 p.m.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Dessert, who was 66, was an experienced diver.
