RIVIE - RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. — A Riviera Beach police officer -- accused of lying to authorities -- has pleaded guilty for the use of a firearm while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and disorderly intoxication.
Sergeant Michael Dodson was in court Thursday morning.
Palm Beach Gardens police say back in 2009, Dodson fabricated a story about being shot and almost burglarized at his mother's home.
But prosecutors say he was drunk and actually shot himself.
offDodson pleaded guilty to two second-degree misdemeanors Thursday connected to the incident.
He also agreed to complete community service, endure a psychological evaluation and substance abuse education.
Dodson will now be on probation.
He has been on restricted administrative duty at the police department pending an internal investigation.
