A suspicious death investigation is underway in Riviera Beach after a man was found Sunday lying in a parking lot and bleeding.

Investigators said the man, who was found on the 2000 block of Broadway and East 24th Street, was taken to a nearby hospital and later died from his wounds.

Several blocks of Broadway near Blue Heron Boulevard were closed off Sunday afternoon as police tried to piece together what led to what they called a "suspicious death."

Investigators said a witness found the victim lying on the ground, bleeding outside VFW Post 4143.

People inside the VFW hall said they were forced to stay inside while police investigated.

"It's a mess. You got everyone hollering at everybody, arguments. It's just, I've never seen anything like it before," said Jim Jackson, a VFW Post 4143 member. "It's hot, it's hot outside and it's hotter in there."

A spokesperson for the Riviera Beach Police Department said the man who died was not shot.

A description of the man or his name has not been released.
