RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. - Police arrested a Palm Beach County firefighter/paramedic and nearly arrested a Palm Springs police officer following an incident at Johnny Longboats bar and restaurant in Riviera Beach Saturday.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Riviera Beach police were called to the restaurant after a manager called to complain that a group of customers left without paying their bill for $267.28.
The officer caught up with the group in the parking lot and told them someone needed to pay or face arrest for theft.
The officer says a man who identified himself as Michael N. Klein, a Palm Beach County firefighter, stepped forward and said he would pay the bill.
The officer noted that a woman in the group was 'belligerent' and at times 'yelling and being disorderly.'
According to the affidavit, Klein got within inches of the officer's face so the officer placed a hand on Klein's chest and pushed him back.
Klein responded, "You can't touch me," according to the affidavit, which excited the group.
The officer called for backup and ordered Klein and the woman to leave the area.
The officer says the woman refused and "continued to be argumentative."
The officer let her leave and thought Klein had left as well but then found him walking toward another officer who had arrived on scene and was "continuing to be belligerent."
Police arrested Klein and charged him with disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer without violence.
The officer later said he learned the woman whom he described as argumentative is Angela Brito, a police officer with the Palm Springs Police Department.
Although she was not arrested, Riviera Beach police say probable cause exists to charge Brito with disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer without violence.
According to the affidavit there is dash cam video of the incident that has been entered as evidence as well as three written statements from witnesses.
