RIVERIA BEACH, Fla. - Firefighters battled a small brush fire on the southwest portion of Peanut Island Sunday.
No people or property were in danger, said Tracy Adams of Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue.
She said the fire was in an area approximately 75 feet by 75 feet.
Adams said a "porta-pump" was used to fight the fire using water from the Intracoastal Waterway.
Dry conditions helped fan the fire that led to a mandatory evacuation for half of the island.
A westerly breeze kept the east side of the island open... but people on the western side had to leave.
