A corrections deputy with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office was arrested and charged Monday with delivering contraband to a jail inmate and brokering a deal with the inmate to purchase stolen debit cards.

Dawn Kramer, 40, joined the Sheriff's Office in May 2009.

The agency launched an internal investigation in May after a person identified in Kramer's arrest report as a reliable confidential informant told officials Kramer regularly delivered contraband to an inmate housed in the Sheriff's Office Main Detention Center.

The informant also reported to authorities that Kramer had made a deal with the inmate to buy stolen debit cards.

The Sheriff's Office worked with the informant and an undercover investigator to arrange two sales in June, authorities said. Kramer, they added, was told several times that the debit cards had been stolen and purchased them anyway on two separate occasions that month.

During the course of the internal investigation, officials said Kramer also had been delivering coffee and cigarettes to the inmate and also gave him five Viagra pills.

Kramer has been charged with two counts of dealing in stolen property and one count of introducing contraband into a penal facility. She faces up to 35 years in prison.
