SUBURBAN LAKE WORTH, Fla. - An armed home invasion led to a deputy-involved shooting in suburban Lake Worth Tuesday according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
It all happened in the 2900 block of Via Vizcaya in suburban Lake Worth.
Hank Kleber, a bystander, said, "I just got a call from my wife that my mother-in-law heard a shot."
Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the suspects entered the home through a back sliding-glass door, while three people were inside the house.
Bradshaw said one of them was a female who ran outside. She went up to the driver of a delivery service truck and asked him to call the sheriff's office.
According to Bradshaw, she said, "There's somebody in my house."
Bradshaw says a deputy showed up a short time later and came face to face with the suspects in the kitchen. The sheriff says the deputy fired three shots, striking one of them.
A weapon was recovered at the scene. There will be an investigation into the circumstances of the shooting, but Bradshaw said, "At this point, there's no doubt in my mind, he did what was appropriate."
The suspect who was shot is now recovering at Delray Medical Center. Bradshaw says that suspect, whose name has not been released, is expected to survive. No name was given for the other suspect. The deputy was not injured.
