Seth Adams shooting case: Petition grows surrounding PBSO shooting of unarmed Loxahatchee Groves man

LOXAHATCHEE GROVES, Fla. -- Hundreds are rallying around the family of an unarmed Loxahatchee Groves man who was shot and killed by a Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy during a confrontation.

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw insisted on Friday that his deputy, Michael Custer, was put in harms way after Seth Adams repeatedly disobeyed orders and physically attacked the deputy.

Sheriff Bradshaw said Adams was told he was under arrest but instead lunged at the neck of Custer, eventually running to his truck where Adams allegedly hid his hands from the deputy.

Some in the community of Loxahatchee Groves are not buying the story told by investigators.

"I just know he was coming home, he lives here and there was an altercation between him and a police officer. Just seems strange, very strange," said Maureen Geary, a Loxahatchee Groves resident.

Those who knew Adams said the alleged attack seems out of character for the plant nursery employee.

"I don't feel Seth had it in him to be confrontational to anybody," said Barry Stephany, a Loxahatchee Groves resident.

That outrage and disbelief is now being transformed into a online-petition on Change.org. The petition calls for the PBSO to release more information surrounding the shooting and for a fair investigation.

In the matter of just a few days, more than 600 people have signed it in the hopes of catching the state attorney's attention.  

"Just like the Zimmerman case, somebody is looking into that. I think that this is something somebody should look into it because it just doesn't add up, it just doesn't make sense knowing Seth," said Stephany.

PBSO said once it finishes the investigation, it will hand the investigation over to the state attorney's office who will decide if the shooting was justified.
