ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. - Andrea Frate runs her Fairfox Farms business out of her Loxahatchee home. All of her business mail goes straight to a Loxahatchee PO Box.
"There's a lot of really important paperwork that I get for my business. I need it to go to a PO Box, not on the road," said Frate.
Isaac flooded the Loxahatchee post office, pushing two feet of water inside. The excessive water forced the office to shut down for the time being.
"I hope they're going to reopen it. I pray they're going to reopen it," Frate laughed.
Now, people like Frate are driving to the Palms West Post Office in Royal Palm Beach. It's about a 15 minute drive, from the post office in Loxahatchee.
The Royal Palm Office has designated an area for those Loxahatchee customers. As postal workers search bins for their mail, customers tell us they are growing tired of the drive and the wait in line. Over the past couple of weeks, the routine has just gotten tiring.
"It's really good right now; there's only five or six people in line. Usually, there's about 45," said Frate. "It was out to the door yesterday."
Joe McCann has played the waiting game.
"Yesterday, it took two hours," said the retired electrical inspector.
In a statement, U.S. Postal Service spokeswoman Debra Fetting writes, "We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience experienced since the tropical storm."
Fetting says the USPS is hoping to get retail operations running again early next week. She says repairs to the carrier section of the building will take a few days longer to complete.
Those repairs, she says, include replacing some floor tiles, painting, and replacing furniture, counters and signs.
Mail carriers are now delivering mail to areas where the flood waters have receded in Loxahatchee.
In the meantime, customers like Frate continue to wait.
